In November we noted the new requirements for the self-registration process of manufacturing premises of food exported to China under Decree 248.
The online system for self-registration has been live since 1 November 2021, however there remains some uncertainty around the scope of some of the questions being asked and how they may apply to Australian wine businesses. We have been working with Wine Australia, the Federal Government and international colleges to clarify a number of these questions.
While international efforts are being made to seek an extension of time to implement this decree, it is understood that Chinese Authorities expect that self-registration should be completed before Decree 248 comes into effect on 1 January 2022.
The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) are maintaining a market access watch over the issue and publishing updated information here as it becomes available.
