The Packaging Committee provides a forum for direct discussion among stakeholders – and advice to the Australian Grape & Wine Board – on political, technological, environmental, regulatory and market driven changes in wine, wine product and brandy packaging.

Terms of Reference

  • Updating and promoting the Wine Packaging Guidelines
  • Encouraging cooperation between winemakers and local packaging companies in response to proposed changes to packaging specifications by major national and international distributors
  • Working to improve safety levels for packing and transporting wine
  • Maintaining a watching brief on Container Deposit Legislation
  • Investigating the development of a benchmark for whole of life packaging costs in Australia
  • Monitoring international and domestic allergen and other mandatory labelling
  • Monitoring the lightweighting of bottles internationally and working with domestic bottle producers on lightweighting issues
  • Providing input into the National Trade Measurement Legislation and Regulations
  • Keeping WFA members informed of any relevant changes to packaging regulations, domestically and internationally.
