Australia – India trade negotiations

The Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) has been under negotiation for some time. Since the beginning of 2021, there has been renewed enthusiasm from both sides to progress these free trade negotiations.

On 26 August 2021, the Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment and his counterpart Hon Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Food and Consumer Affairs and Textiles, India held a video conference.

In a positive step, the Ministers have directed officials to speed up the negotiations and to meet as often as required to achieve an early harvest announcement by December 2021 on an interim agreement to liberalise and deepen bilateral trade in goods and services.

Australian Grape & Wine is highly supportive of this work, as it creates pathways and a way forward for a more comprehensive agreement. We will continue working with the Australian Government to support this long-term priority for the sector.
