When testing results for brix or colour that will impact grape payment, an Industry Endorsed Standard Procedure or a validated secondary method should be used. The vineyard sampling guidelines should also be followed. This is an absolute requirement of winemakers who are signatories to the Code of Conduct. Where secondary methods are used, they must be validated according to the IESP for validation of secondary methods. The facility needs to be familiar with the IESP and ensure it can demonstrate that it has met the criteria set out in the procedure. In the case of a payment dispute, conformance with the details of the IESP will form part of the adjudication.
